History of Idaho Transmission Warehouse

Idaho Transmission WarehouseIn 1970, James R. McGeachin opened an AAMCO Transmission franchise on Skyline Drive in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Jim was dedicated to providing quality transmission repair service with an honest reputation. After just four months, he decided to become independent and Western Transmission was born.

Based on the premises of quality service and honesty, the business grew. Most repair jobs were difficult, because fairly priced transmission parts were not easily accessible. The nearest parts supplier was in Salt Lake City, so Western Transmission began to stock its own parts. As a result, other automotive shops in town purchased parts from Western Transmission. This branch of the business grew rapidly, with parts sales expanding into other areas of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah.

In 1974, Jim added a building adjacent to Western Transmission which became Idaho Transmission Warehouse, a wholesale parts supplier. The goal of ITW was to provide parts with same day service at fair prices.

An opportunity for another wholesale parts store soon existed in Boise, Idaho. This would provide better service to Western Idaho, as well as Oregon, Nevada, and the state of Washington. In 1982, Jim’s oldest son Jimmy moved to Boise and established the territory in that area. Since then, Western Transmission has continued to gain the reputation of quality service and honest work. ITW in Idaho Falls and Boise continues to expand sales in seven northwestern states, with some of the best buying power in the area.

Idaho Transmission WarehouseAn extension of J.R. Inc. in 1989 was the startup of High Torque, a torque convertor remanufacturing plant. This plant enabled Western Transmission and ITW to supply themselves with torque convertors for services and sales. It is a vital link to the expansion and strength of the company.

In 1992, Jim retired from the business, selling the company to his son Jimmy. Today Jimmy and Janice McGeachin own and operate J.R. McGeachin, Inc. and J.J. McGeachin, Inc. The profits of the business have always been reinvested in the company by purchasing state of the art computer systems, phone networks, machinery, and non-salary employee benefits. By reinvesting in the company and its employees, J.R. Inc. has maintained its competitive edge. J.R. Inc. is committed to improving the community as an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, and by supporting numerous organizations.
